FEATURES:
►Bolt: The deadbolt contains a solid metal bolt that extends from the lock into the door frame or strike plate when engaged. This bolt is typically made of hardened steel and provides a strong barrier against forced entry.
►Cylinder: The term "cylinder" refers to the key cylinder integrated into the deadbolt mechanism. This cylinder accepts a key from the outside, allowing the deadbolt to be locked and unlocked. Cylinder deadbolts may have single-cylinder or double-cylinder configurations:
►-Single Cylinder: These deadbolts have a key cylinder on the outside and a thumbturn or knob on the inside. They can be locked and unlocked from the outside using a key and from the inside using the thumbturn or knob.
►-Double Cylinder: These deadbolts have key cylinders on both the outside and inside of the door. They require a key to lock or unlock the door from both sides, providing additional security but also requiring a key for egress from the inside in case of emergency.
Strike Plate: The strike plate is mounted on the door jamb and provides a receiving point for the bolt when the deadbolt is engaged. It reinforces the door jamb and helps prevent forced entry by distributing the force of attempted break-ins.
►Thumbturn or Knob: In single-cylinder deadbolts, the thumbturn or knob is located on the interior side of the door. It allows manual locking and unlocking without requiring a key. Double-cylinder deadbolts do not have a thumbturn or knob on the inside, as they require a key for operation from both sides.
